When the owner's girlfriend moved in, they realized they needed another space where one could work quietly, hang out with friends, watch sports, or do a workout without disturbing the other person.
While the best option was a deeded section of their duplex's shared basement, it presented many challenges. The space was a dedicated storage, housed many utilities and was directly below the 1st floor neighbours.
To accommodate these challenges, we dived the space into two areas. One for utilities and storage, and the other for entertainment. For noise consideration, we incorporated sound insulation in the walls and ceiling, and added stylish acoustic wall panels for a warm & sophisticated touch.
To accommodate access to the sump pump, water taps and backwater valve (which were located in the entertainment section), we created a bar with space for a sink, mini fridge, storage and a flatscreen TV. For floor access, we installed decorative foam matts which provided a waterproof, thermal block, absorb sound, can be easily removed & look great!
Our client is thrilled with the new space. The only challenge now? Who's furniture gets to fill it.
